This annual artist camp, founded in 2005, is run by artists for artists and occurs at Falls Creek in Victoria’s alpine region in summer each year. It is organised by D. H. Thomas in association with fellow artist Cameron Robbins. Groups of up to 15 artists stay for a week at a ski lodge Icicles, where living is communal and self -catered.

‘’We wish to create an atmosphere for creativity unfettered, and for responding to ‘place’ in different ways, producing artwork or not, according to the artists means and wants. Sketching, drawing painting, photography, filmmaking, sculpture, sound, dance and writing, all possibilities that have been explored.’’

The aim of the camp is to bring a diverse group of artists to the high country, and through walking and hiking, explore the local landscape. The powerful ambiance of features like the Ruined Castle or the Basalt Temple, consisting of hexagonal basalt columns, are revealed. Mountains like Nelse, and Jaithmathang, redolent of Indigenous energy and spirits, inspire with their ancient heritage, as well as Bogong moths and packs of wild brumbies.

‘’We have stood by an ethos over the years, one of diversity and inclusivity. That means a balanced selection of artists; equal male and female, older artists and young, famous and unknown, different media, sexual persuasion, and race. Where possible, artists of little means are subsidised by others.’’
